Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School

Science

Our Lady Immaculate Primary School aims to develop a fun, practical and engaging high-quality curriculum that inspires the next generation to succeed and excel in science. We do this through fully adhering to the aims of the national curriculum and fostering a healthy curiosity and interest in the sciences. We believe science encompasses the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and positive respectful attitudes.

At the heart of our progressive and purposeful science curriculum is scientific investigation. We aim to deliver lessons where children learn through well-planned systematic investigations, equipping them to ask and answer scientific questions about the world around them and preparing them to become global citizens. We ensure that the curriculum is planned and delivered in small steps; ensuring knowledge is built on prior learning. Our children will also make links between other curriculum areas and will be able to show their scientific knowledge and skills across the curriculum.

We ensure that the ‘Working Scientifically’ skills are built on and developed throughout children’s science journey at our school so that they can apply their knowledge of science when using equipment, conducting experiments and investigation, building arguments and explaining concepts confidently. They will become familiar with scientific vocabulary and, most importantly, to continue to ask questions and be curious about their surroundings.
